ADVANCING EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP (AEL)

Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) is the Commissioner Recommended teacher evaluation system for the state of Texas starting in the 2016/2017 school year; administrators will benefit from training that provides support in the implementation of impactful strategies designed to improve instruction and student performance at the campus and district levels. This is where Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) comes into play.

To meet these expectations, T-TESS appraisers must complete the three-day Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) training. AEL is about equipping campus leaders with the skills to create a positive, collaborative school culture that prioritizes student success. Join us and take your leadership skills to the next level!

ASPIRING ADMINISTRATORS' ACADEMY

Aspiring Administrators' 3-day Academy: Increase prospective campus administrators' understanding of the requirements and characteristics of an effective administrator. Topics may include but are not limited to: Roles and Responsibilities, Instructional Leadership, Data-Driven Instruction, Coaching, Collaboration, and Effective Communication.

CAMPUS ACCOUNTABILITY SUPPORT

Accountability Deep Dive: The accountability system is a robust system designed to highlight the performance and growth of campuses. This session invites administrators to gain a deeper understanding of the components of the framework and what campuses can do to improve these components.

Unpacking Your Campus Accountability: Understanding your campus accountability is critical to constructing a plan to grow student performance. Administrators will unpack their campus accountability and identify areas for growth.

Build a Better Campus: The A-F Accountability System gives our campuses and districts a grade, but what specific steps can we take as administrators to make improvements? During this session, administrators will identify areas within the accountability system where they want to improve, explore key actions to take, and how it could look on their campus.

FIRST TIME ADMINISTRATORS' ACADEMY (FTAA)

This 4-day academy is designed to support those who are beginning their first year as a campus administrator as a principal or assistant principal. This induction year program complies with Texas Admin. Code § 241.25 and includes a mentoring component, support materials, and four training sessions. Mentors should register for the same session as their first-time administrators. There is no fee for mentors.

IMPACT COACHING

The Impact Coaching Training is a 2-day companion training for T-TESS and T-PESS Appraiser preparation. The training focuses on helping Appraisers learn specialized coaching skills, tools, and competencies to utilize in the T-TESS and T-PESS observation cycles.

Coaching should be regarded as a process that empowers teachers with reflective problem-solving skills. T-TESS/T-PESS Impact Coaching training will develop instructional leadership skills to inspire, guide, and coach staff to reach their full potential and positively impact performance. Participants will apply the Impact Coaching Competencies to the planning and instructional criteria of the T-TESS/T-PESS rubric; and develop a skill set to engage in reflective discussions and plan action steps for continuous improvement.

Participants receive the book Instructional Coaching by Jim Knight as a resource.

INSTRUCTIONAL COACHING

The foundation for a successful instructional coaching program should focus on supporting teachers in improving their instructional practice and ultimately enhancing student learning.

Region 7 supports success for all teachers and students through:

Workshops that improve content understanding and promote best practices.
Timely updates of regulations and legislation impacting the classroom.
Connecting coaches with real-world learning opportunities for themselves and their teachers.

STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVES (SLO)

SLOs are long-term goals for student learning crafted by teachers and administrators. Often working in teams with peer, school, and district support, teachers develop these goals to help define what success looks like for their students and plan backward to ensure that instruction is purposefully guiding schools, teachers, and students toward a common vision of success.

TEXAS TEACHER EVALUATION AND SUPPORT SYSTEM (T-TESS)

Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) is the Commissioner Recommended teacher evaluation system for the state of Texas starting in the 2016/2017 school year. Upon conclusion of the three-day face-to-face training, appraisers must successfully complete the online certification test to assume the role of certified appraisers.

Before conducting an appraisal, an appraiser must be certified by having satisfactorily completed these state-approved requirements:

T-TESS Appraiser Training
Success on the T-TESS Certification Examination

We provide T-TESS training, consultations, and support throughout the year to fulfill the state-mandated requirement for anyone who appraises teachers using the T-TESS instrument. We also offer half-day teacher orientations to familiarize new teachers with T-TESS.

TEXAS PRINCIPAL EVALUATION AND SUPPORT SYSTEM (T-PESS)

The intended purpose of the Texas Principal Evaluation and Support System is to assess the principal’s performance in relation to the Texas Principal Standards.

A standardized principal evaluation system will:

serve as a measurement of leadership performance,
guide leaders as they reflect upon and improve their effectiveness,
focus the goals and objectives of schools and districts as they support, monitor, and evaluate their principals,
guide professional development for principals,
serve as a tool in developing coaching and mentoring programs for principals, and
inform higher education programs in developing the content and requirements of degree programs that prepare future principals.

We provide T-PESS training, consultations, and support throughout the year for anyone who appraises principals. Principals are also encouraged to attend these trainings to deepen their understanding of the appraisal process.
