Lone Star Governance is a research-based program that helps Texas school boards and superintendents focus on one goal—improving student outcomes. Grounded in the Texas Framework for School Board Development, it centers on five key areas: Vision and Goals, Systems and Processes, Progress and Accountability, Advocacy and Engagement, and Teamwork.
 
The program begins with a two-day workshop where governance teams learn practical ways to connect their decisions to student success. Afterward, teams receive coaching and tools through the LSG Integrity Instrument to put those practices into action.
 
Participation meets state training requirements, including credit for Introduction to the Code, Update to the Code, Team Building, and Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes. Teams that complete the program may also earn an LSG Certificate and recognition from the State Board of Education.
 
Districts wanting a deeper experience can join the LSG Exemplar Cohort, which includes a year of coaching, board self-evaluations, and collaboration with other leadership teams.

School Board Coaching
 
Strong boards benefit from strong support. Region 7 provides coaching to help trustees lead effectively—through one-on-one guidance, officer development, or full-team training. Boards strengthen governance practices, understand legal responsibilities, and refine operating procedures. Coaching is tailored for both new and experienced members to promote clarity, unity, and purpose.
 
Beyond individual coaching, trustees can grow through the School Board Summit, which connects board members across districts for shared learning and collaboration. Candidate Training helps prospective trustees understand the role before serving, while First-Time Board Member Training prepares new members to lead with confidence. Officer development sessions equip presidents, vice presidents, and secretaries with tools to guide their teams effectively.
 
Together, these supports ensure every board member—at any stage—is equipped to govern with confidence and a focus on student success.
