Sentinel 101 - 2026-2027
Intended Audience: Superintendents, Safety Coordinators/Directors, Campus Administrators,
School-based Law Enforcement, Behavior Threat Assessment Coordinators,
Behavior Threat Assessment team members, etc.
In this office-hour-style workshop, you will be guided step by step through Sentinel, with an emphasis
on its essential components. Participants will have the opportunity to engage hands-on in Sentinel Sandbox Mode alongside the presenter.
Whether you are new to School Safety or looking for a refresher to start the new year, this workshop is designed for you.

- Provide professional development opportunities through face-to-face, webinars, and online courses for school safety and security. Training topics include, but are not limited to the following:
- Emergency Management (including Emergency Operation Plans, Appendices, and Annexes)
- State-required Behavioral Threat Assessment (BTA) team member initial training
- Safety and Security Committee Operations
- School Based Law Enforcement
- Standard Response Protocol - Standard Reunification Method
- Legislative updates
- Technical Assistance for the Sentinel platform
- Provide up to two half-day, in-district, face-to-face professional development sessions upon request. Training topics include, but are not limited to:
- o Sentinel
- o Behavior Threat Assessment Processes and Procedures
- o Standard Response Protocol w/ Situational Awareness
- o Safety and Security Committee Operations
- Provide state-required Department of Public Safety initial Guardian certification, or refresher course, for one member of the district’s Guardian team. Training will include classroom and range portions.
- Assist with the 3-year audit by providing Student and Teacher & Staff surveys to be used by the district
- Provide technical assistance to the Behavior Threat Assessment Team.
- Provide on-site and remote technical assistance in reviewing the Emergency Operation Plan before submission to the Texas School Safety Center.
- Provide professional development on topics such as, but not limited to, Dating Violence, Drug Awareness, Gang Awareness, etc.
- Provide training to perform the statutorily required 3-year Safety and Security Audit.
- Provide professional development and technical assistance for school safety grants and required reporting.
- Provide support during an emergency upon request.
- Provide support and technical assistance during the DVA process.
A.T.P. (Active Threat Preparedness)Training: A.T.P. Training is a research-based, scenario approach to responding to an active threat situation. This workshop authorizes and empowers those engaged in such an event to utilize existing building infrastructure, technology, and human action to distract and reduce the threat, which increases the chance of survival.
