Paraprofessionals play a significant role in the education of our students in public school. Paraprofessionals who perform instructional duties must meet the following requirements to be considered highly qualified:
- Completed at least two years of study at an institute of higher education and/or have an associate’s or higher degree; or
- “Have met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment-knowledge of , and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate. (PL-107-110, Sect. 1119)
Region 7 offers a Paraprofessional Institute to meet the second requirement listed above.
