Civics Training Program

Civics Training Program Dates and Locations
Civics Training Programs build campus administrator and teacher expertise by strengthening the skills and knowledge Texas educators need to cultivate informed American patriotism in students and lead close study of the founding documents of the United States and Texas.
Region 7 ESC is offering multiple in-person elementary Civics Training Program sessions throughout summer and fall 2026. Each campus is required to have at least one teacher and one principal or campus instructional leader attend civics training.

Who Should Attend?
Each campus must have one teacher and the principal complete civics training.
For information about potential capacity and registration options, please contact Mary Jane Dean at [email protected].
Additional Attendees
While there will be additional opportunities for non-campus staff to attend, the current priority is to ensure that at least one teacher and the principal from each campus receive civics training. Requests for additional participants will be accommodated if space and funding allow. Campuses should contact Mary Jane Dean for information about potential capacity and registration options.
Training Format
This is a two-day, in-person training with 12 total hours of content. Elementary campuses begin summer 2026. Campuses are encouraged to send a social studies teacher or knowledgeable designee. Secondary training is anticipated for summer 2027 pending SBOE approval.
Post-Training
Training participants, including the campus principal and designated campus teacher, are expected to make decisions on how to best use the post-training activities and discussions at their individual campuses. Unlike reading academies that require district-level coaching and support, civics training implementation decisions are left up to individual campuses.
