Region 7 Elementary Teacher of the Year Emily Greer Advances to State Finals
Region 7 Education Service Center is proud to announce that Emily Greer of Chapel Hill ISD, the 2027 Region 7 Elementary Teacher of the Year, has been selected as one of three finalists for the 2027 Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year.
Greer, a fine arts teacher at Jackson Elementary School, was surprised with the exciting news at her campus on Tuesday, August 25. Surrounded by her school family, she learned that she had advanced from a field of 20 regional elementary honorees to become one of just three elementary finalists statewide.
Greer serves students from 3-year-old Head Start/Pre-K through third grade at Jackson Elementary. Through music, art, and theater, she encourages students to try new things, explore the world beyond their own experiences, and discover abilities they may not have known they possessed.
Her commitment to students and education has been recognized throughout her career. Greer has been named Jackson Elementary Teacher of the Year three times, in 2011, 2019, and 2026, and has received multiple Teacher of the Month honors. In 2016, Humanities Texas recognized her as an Outstanding Teacher of the Humanities. She holds a Bachelor of Behavioral Science in Education from Hardin-Simmons University and a Master of Science in Library Science from the University of North Texas.
Greer was selected as Chapel Hill ISD's 2026 Elementary and Overall Teacher of the Year before being named the 2027 Region 7 Elementary Teacher of the Year. She and Sharon Garner of Whitehouse High School, Whitehouse ISD, Region 7's Secondary Teacher of the Year, advanced to the statewide competition as Region 7's representatives. Region 7 ESC is incredibly proud of both educators and the outstanding way they represent the students, schools, and educators of East Texas.
The Texas Association of School Administrators announced the six state finalists, three elementary and three secondary, on August 25. The finalists were selected from the 40 Regional Teachers of the Year representing the state's 20 education service center regions.
Greer and the other five finalists will be interviewed on October 15 by a panel that includes representatives from educational leadership associations, community and business leaders, members of the State Board for Educator Certification and State Board of Education, and previous Texas Teachers of the Year.
The 2027 Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year and Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year will be announced during an awards ceremony on October 16 at the Kalahari Resort & Convention Center in Round Rock. All 40 Regional Teachers of the Year, including Greer and Garner, will also be recognized during the ceremony. One of the two state winners will be selected to represent Texas in the National Teacher of the Year program.
The Texas Teacher of the Year program has recognized excellence in classroom education since 1969 and is facilitated by the Texas Association of School Administrators.
