The Power of Learning, Leading, and Innovating Together

INNOVATION IN EDUCATION: WHY IT MATTERS

The landscape of education is changing rapidly, and research consistently shows that traditional “sit-and-get” models are no longer enough to prepare students for the future. Today’s learners need more than content knowledge—they need skills like problem-solving, creativity, adaptability, and collaboration. According to studies from organizations like the World Economic Forum and the Partnership for 21st Century Learning, the ability to think critically and work creatively with others are among the most essential competencies for success in modern careers.

Innovation in teaching isn’t just about using technology; it’s about creating learning environments that mirror the real world. Project-based learning, inquiry-driven instruction, and technology-enhanced lessons give students opportunities to explore authentic problems, apply what they’ve learned, and develop confidence in their ability to adapt to new challenges. These approaches don’t just make learning more engaging—they improve retention, foster higher-order thinking, and help students see the relevance of their education.

Engagement is another key outcome. When students see themselves reflected in the learning process—through interactive tools, hands-on experiences, or personalized pathways—they are more motivated to learn. Research has shown that engagement strongly correlates with academic achievement, improved attendance, and reduced dropout rates. In short, innovation doesn’t just make classrooms more exciting; it makes them more effective.

For educators, being innovative also means staying open to new ideas and continuously reflecting on practice. It’s about balancing what we know works with a willingness to experiment and adapt. This mindset of ongoing growth benefits not only students, but entire school communities.

A SPACE TO LEARN TOGETHER

Innovation doesn’t happen in isolation. The most powerful ideas often come from educators sharing their successes, challenges, and lessons learned. That’s why opportunities to connect with peers are so critical.

The Fall Innovative Teaching & Technology (FITT) Conference, hosted by Region 7 Digital Learning, provides exactly that kind of space. FITT brings educators together to explore new strategies, try out tools, and hear how innovation is making a difference in classrooms across the region.

WHY ATTEND?

At its core, FITT is about connection and inspiration. It's a chance to step away from the everyday hustle and into a space filled with curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.

You’ll walk into rooms buzzing with ideas—where teachers, tech coaches, librarians, administrators, and instructional leaders are all sharing what works in their classrooms and campuses. Whether you're looking to dive into emerging technologies, explore new teaching strategies, or see real examples of student-centered learning, FITT delivers.

💡 Both days of the conference will feature sessions designed for ALL educators.

📚 On Wednesday, November 19, there will be a dedicated strand of sessions tailored for librarians and library staff.

🧭 On Thursday, November 20, you’ll find a strand of sessions designed for instructional coaches, instructional technology staff, technology directors, and administrators.

THE IMPACT

The ripple effect of FITT doesn’t end when the last session wraps up. What educators gain—ideas, tools, connections—goes back into classrooms, campuses, and communities. Students benefit from teachers who are energized and equipped. Leaders bring back strategies that support growth across teams. And the entire learning ecosystem is stronger because we’re not just consuming innovation—we're creating it.
