ESC Staff Facilitate Unique Learning Experience

Professional School Counselors and Career and Technical Education teachers gathered at Texas State Technical College in Marshall to gain insight on the different paths available to high school students post-graduation.
Region 7 ESC staff members organized the meeting in an effort to support Priority 3, connecting high school to career and college, as established by the Texas Commissioner of Education, Mike Morath.

During the meeting, attendants were separated in two groups, counselors and CTE educators. The meeting was divided in two sessions that included an informative presentation led by Texas State Technical College and a tour of the facility with an explanation of each program offered by the college.

During the presentation, TSTC staff members outlined the application process, technical college facts, dual credit, dual enrollment and programs offered at the college.

CTE educators had round table discussions to share ideas and network about issues, concerns and successes in their districts.

During the tour, attendants heard from students and teachers to gain insight about programs offered, along with degrees and certifications.

Due to the success of this pilot meeting, ESC staff plan to hold at least three similar meetings annually. The meeting will be hosted by higher education entities throughout the region. This will allow them to highlight programs offered, as well as allow district staff the ability to gain knowledge about the latest offering for their students.
