Assistive Technology Program Supports & Services
Assistive technology (AT) is as any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. (29 U.S.C. Sec 2202(2)). Region 7 supports local school districts by providing consultation services and technical assistance on assistive technology that help students access the general curriculum.

Region 7 has a limited inventory of assistive technology items available for checkout to districts within our region. Loaning AT items allows school personnel an opportunity to try various devices with students to ensure the suitability of a particular device to the individual needs of a student before purchasing. PEIMS Coding Guidance for Assistive Technology Indicator
School districts in Texas are required to collect and report information to the Public Information Management System (PEIMS). If a student with a disability receives assistive technology devices or services that are included in the IEP, the PEIMS assistive technology indicator should be coded affirmatively. Technical Assistance
Technical assistance can be provided through email, telephone conversations, video conferencing, and/or onsite visits by contacting the Special Education Specialists shown below. Requests for on-site consultation specific to a student should be made through email. Please secure permission from the special education director and campus principal prior to on-site technical assistance.
